This page is a factual response to public allegations that have been made against me by Saira Grace Wain on Gabriola Island, beginning in 2023 and continuing into 2026. I am posting it because the allegations have been made publicly, and I believe a public response on the same record is reasonable.
I have tried to keep this page to documented facts and clearly stated opinion. I have not included photographs of any other party, and I have not characterized her or anyone else as I might be tempted to.
What I can document
- Saira Grace Wain was a tenant in my home from approximately November 2022 to March 2023. To my knowledge, the tenancy ended without incident on either side at the time.
- In 2023, a letter was posted publicly at Nester's Market on Gabriola Island alleging that I was a sexual predator and a danger to women. I am informed that Nester's retains a copy of this letter on file.
- In mid-July 2024, Saira Grace Wain made public comments in the private "Gabriola Community Board" Facebook group of approximately six thousand members, alleging that I am "extremely dangerous and mentally ill" and that I have "been sexually violent towards many women including [her]self." The comments have since been deleted from Facebook. A screenshot is included in the supporting documents.
- In August 2025, at an open mic event at the Gabriola Golf Club, Saira Grace Wain spoke to me in person and told me to leave the island.
- In December 2025, I encountered her in a local supermarket on Gabriola Island. No words were exchanged.
- On January 2, 2026, I received a text message from Saira Grace Wain stating that she intended to make a police report about me on Monday, January 5, 2026.
- On January 5, 2026, a police report was made about me. On January 6, 2026, two RCMP officers attended my home. I declined to answer questions at the door. No charges have been laid against me arising from that report or any other report, and the officers have not returned.
My position
I deny that I am a sexual predator. I deny that I am a danger to women. I have never been charged with any sexual offence, and no police investigation arising from any complaint about me has resulted in charges.
I recognize that on a small island, public allegations of this kind can do lasting damage regardless of whether they are pursued through the courts. I have lived on Gabriola since 2014, and most of my family connections to this island go back more than thirty years. I intend to continue living here.
I am not asking anyone to take my word over hers. I am asking that anyone forming a view consider the documented record alongside whatever they have heard.
